Newcastle Red Bulls have confirmed that 26 players will leave the club at the end of the current season as preparations continue for the next chapter on Tyneside.
⭐ Save us to your Google Favourites for nonstop RUCK content! Centurion scrum-half Sam Stuart headlines the departures after making 134 appearances across nine years at Kingston Park, while Elliott Obatoyinbo departs following 68 games in five seasons with the club.
Lock Seb de Chaves also moves on after featuring 93 times during two spells in Newcastle colours, while Freddie Lockwood leaves having scored 13 tries in 82 appearances. Flanker Tom Gordon is another notable departure after two seasons with the side.
International veterans Hame Faiva and Liam Williams had already announced their retirements earlier in the campaign, while short-term additions Bryn Gordon, Ben Healy and Jamie Clark will also depart this summer.
Sporting general manager Neil McIlroy paid tribute to the outgoing group.
“On behalf of everybody at the club I would like to thank all of our departing players for their contribution during their time here.
“The group have been outstanding to work with during a period of huge change at the club, and they can all be proud of their efforts as part of the first wave of Newcastle Red Bulls players.
“There is understandable excitement regarding the future here, but it’s hugely important we acknowledge the part played by guys who are moving on.
“We wish them all the very best for whatever next steps they have in place, and they will always be welcome here.”
