Leinster for the URC Title? – Current Bookmaker Odds

With the URC (United Rugby Championship) now in full swing, we’re perhaps starting to get a slight insight into which team may take the title for the 2025/26 season. 

Last year we saw Ireland’s Leinster battle it out with South Africa’s Bulls. With all eyes on the South Africans, ultimately, they were demolished pretty emphatically by top seeds Leinster, who cruised to a 32 – 7 win at Croke Park, serving the Bulls their third defeat in the final in four straight years. Ouch. 

For rugby fans, the URC is so much more than an international tournament for the best-of-the-best. It’s full of excitement, twists, turns, upsets, and drama. It’s a showcase for established veterans and up-and-coming stars from the next generation.

With each of the five competing nations (Ireland, South Africa, Wales, Italy, and Scotland) looking to solidify their place in history, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a cheeky punt and hopefully win some money in the process. 

But who are the bookies backing this year? Will the Irish continue to dominate? Will South Africa finally come good in the final, or could we see an upset? Here are the current bookmaker odds from Irish rugby bookmakers on Betfree.ie and who to keep an eye on. 

Historically, Ireland has always done well at the United Rugby Championships. This was only reaffirmed further when Leinster convincingly dismantled Bulls in last season’s final. 

Jordie Barrett in particular, shone during that performance and helped the Irish team to claim their ninth domestic title, and their first since 2021. With established stars like Josh van der Flier, Tadgh Furlong, Dan Sheer, and Jamison Gibson-Park, they look to be taking no chances this season and have strengthened their rankings further. New Zealander Rieko Ioane was perhaps their signing of the season, and standing at 6ft 2 and 232lbs, he’s got the size, strength, and the athleticism. 

Sam Prendergast is another name to watch. This young fly-half will be looking to make an impression. Sam is considered a real gamechanger with the ability to turn a game around in the blink of an eye. He’s calm, composed, and methodical in his style of play, which suits Leinster down to the ground. 

Despite the defending champions getting off to a sluggish start (and that’s putting it mildly) they are beginning to come good and have emerged as bookies’ favourites to retain the title. With Bet365 offering 10/11 odds and BOYLE Sports currently providing 4/5 odds, would you be foolish not to back the Irish?

As of this writing, it is actually South Africa’s Stormers whom the bookies are backing to win the title, rather than the Bulls. 

Both BOYLE Sports and Bet 365 are offering up odds of 9/2 for Stormers. Despite the Stormers coming up short against fellow South African team The Sharks, losing 36 – 24, they still look more than capable of stealing the title and claiming only their second ever URC title. 

They can also take great solace in the fact that they were able to absolutely demolish defending champions Leinster not too long ago in Round 1, where they battered them 35 – 0. 

Fly-half Jurie Matthee has arguably been their MVP and as he continues to impress, it surely won’t be long before he finally gets that international callup for the Springboks, which has eluded him thus far. 

As of this writing, Scotland’s Glasgow Warriors currently sit at the top of the URC table, with 44 points as opposed to Leinster, who sit at 40. 

At the forefront of the Warriors’ dominant display has been breakout flanker Rory Darge, who has proved pivotal in Scotland’s recent success and has even been dubbed as ‘world-class’. Having signed a contract extension last summer, it’s clear he’s committed to the squad, and it is showing with his performances. 

Both BOYLE Sports and Bet 365 have Glasgow Warriors to take the title this year, and with how well they’ve been performing lately, a win for the Scots is certainly not off the table. 

Naturally, with Leinster finding form, and the Bulls’ previous history in reaching the final, most people are expecting yet another Ireland v South Africa final. While that is certainly not out of the question, you can never write off the Welsh underdogs. 

Cardiff Rugby are currently at 150/1 with Bet 365 to win the title, and 250/1 at BOYLE Sports. With the team entering administration and very nearly ceasing to exist entirely, things off the field have been turbulent to say the least. 

The Welsh are more than capable of putting on some truly dominating displays when they need to, and with those odds, surely the Red Dragon is worth backing?
