Western Force CEO: "Superb" to welcome NRL convert Zac Lomax to Super Rugby

The New South Wales star this week has confirmed that he will be signing for Rugby Australia and donning the jersey of the Perth based side Western Force. CEO of the Force Niamh O’Connor speaking to the press today says, “We’re pretty excited about the announcement, it’s been absolutely superb for us as a club!”

The winger who has had a pretty turbulent off-season as the Eels released him from his contract a year early had many offers from other clubs in the NRL with the likes of Melbourne Storm and South Sydney Rabbitohs chasing his signature, the winger decided to come over to rugby union with the launch of R360 being delayed by two years.

O’Connor admits “we had an opportunity present itself last year with Zac and we followed up on it.” This is another player who is looking at a home rugby world cup in 2027 and licking his lips at the prospect of representing the Wallabies. Signing on a two-year contract, the former NSW Blues star admits he is a “total novice” on rugby union but he has no regrets for his NRL career to end.

Is this a permanent end to Lomax’s NRL career or will he be back in the competition in 2028 when his contract runs out? Well, R360 is scheduled to launch in 2028 but on the contrary a phoenix NRL club based out of Perth is starting up in 2027 so there are options for Lomax to return and potentially with his CV being as decorated as it is may become a marquee signing back in the 13-a-side game.
