Andy Farrell’s two-word reply on replacing Steve Borthwick

With pressure once again building on England boss Steve Borthwick, speculation has inevitably resurfaced around possible successors should the Rugby Football Union ever look elsewhere. Farrell’s name often enters that conversation given his past coaching role with England and the success he has enjoyed since taking charge of Ireland.

However, when he was previously asked about the prospect of replacing England’s head coach, Farrell dismissed the suggestion in emphatic fashion.

“Loving life.”

The Ireland boss used the short response to underline how settled he is in his current role.

Since becoming head coach in 2019, Farrell has overseen one of the most successful periods in Irish rugby history. That period includes a Six Nations Grand Slam and a sustained spell at the top end of the world rankings.

Farrell is contracted to Ireland through the current World Cup cycle and remains focused on leading the side through to the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

He has also spoken in the past about how much he and his family enjoy living in Ireland, reinforcing the sense that he is fully committed to the project there.

While questions about England’s future may continue to arise whenever results falter, Farrell’s previous response made his stance clear — he is happy where he is.
