Statement: USA v England game halted: When will it start again

The game then got underway at 11:05pm BST, but that was paused after 28 minutes due to a weather alert with England leading 14-0.

Latest update suggests the game will resume at 12:21am.

Both the Apple Weather app and the Met Service report that the storms are expected to pass within the hour.

Head coach Steve Borthwick has confirmed his matchday squad for the showdown in the US capital, with kick-off originally set for 22:05 BST on Saturday 19 July, live on England Rugby’s YouTube channel.

George Ford skippers the side, which includes three uncapped players in the starting XV. Arthur Clark, Max Ojomoh, and Joe Carpenter are all set to make their senior England debuts.

There’s also potential for three more debutants off the bench, with Gabriel Oghre, Charlie Atkinson, and Oscar Beard included among the replacements.

This will be the eighth time England have faced the USA in Test rugby, with the Red Roses winning all seven previous meetings.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Borthwick said:
“We know the USA will present a tough challenge. There’s been a great spirit in the squad throughout this tour. The players have worked hard for each other and pushed standards every day. Those selected this weekend have earned their chance through their effort and attitude.
We aim to keep building the squad, learn from every experience, and deliver a performance that our supporters can be proud of.”
