Carter Williams will start on the wing for Amman United in the WRU U18s Cup final against Pontypool United at the Principality Stadium on Friday night—following directly in the footsteps of his legendary father.

The teenage back has been a standout performer all season, playing a key role in guiding Amman United to the brink of being crowned the top U18s side in Wales. But this isn’t just a story about a famous surname—Carter is earning recognition on merit.
Speaking to WalesOnline, Shane Williams couldn’t hide his pride.
“He’s pretty quick, he’s got footwork and he kicks off both feet,” he said. “He’s a bit more of a footballer than I was… his skillset is definitely better than mine.”
High praise, considering Williams’ own legacy. The former Wales winger scored 60 tries in 87 caps, remains the nation’s all-time leading try scorer, and was crowned World Rugby Player of the Year in 2008.
He also starred for the British & Irish Lions, cementing his place among the greats.
Carter, though, is carving out his own path. Comfortable at full-back, wing, or fly-half, he’s already drawing comparisons to Marcus Smith—a true all-rounder.
