Five England internationals are reportedly being lined up for a switch to rugby sevens ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
According to RugbyPass, Team GB are targeting a number of established England stars as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for an Olympic medal in California.

The report claims several leading internationals are being considered as part of Great Britain's long-term plans, with some even expected to have Olympic release clauses written into their club contracts to ensure they are available if selected.
The speculation gathered pace earlier this week after boxing promoter Eddie Hearn appeared to hint at one England star's Olympic ambitions. Speaking in a social media video, Hearn said the player "needs to win the Olympics and the World Cup", adding further fuel to growing rumours of a code switch.
Team GB are understood to be following the blueprint that worked so successfully for France in Paris. Antoine Dupont temporarily stepped away from the 15-a-side game to join the French sevens programme, helping Les Bleus win Olympic gold on home soil. France are now reportedly exploring similar plans with other leading Test stars ahead of Los Angeles.
Great Britain have previous Olympic pedigree, winning silver in Rio in 2016 before finishing fourth in Tokyo. However, they failed to qualify for the Paris Games after losing to South Africa in the final repechage tournament.
If the reported plans come to fruition, it would represent one of the biggest investments yet in Team GB's sevens programme, with a group of established England internationals potentially sacrificing part of their 15-a-side careers in pursuit of Olympic success.

The five England stars reportedly being targeted

According to RugbyPass, the five players being considered are:
  • Henry Pollock
  • Marcus Smith
  • Tommy Freeman
