Newcastle Red Bulls announce signing of Scotland international prop

The 33-year-old tighthead will arrive from league leaders Northampton Saints, where he has played a key role in a highly successful period. Millar Mills helped Saints lift the 2023–24 Gallagher Premiership title and also featured in last season’s Investec Champions Cup final.

Since making his Scotland debut during the 2024 Six Nations, Millar Mills has earned 11 international caps, adding to a career that includes a Premiership breakthrough with Wasps following an impressive spell at Championship side Ealing.

It marks another shrewd signing that Red Bulls have made ahead of next season, with Hoskins Sotutu, Josh Hodge, Franco Molina and Rusi Tuima already confirmed to be heading to the north-east, alongside the reported arrival of Raffi Quirke, subject to official confirmation.

Earlier today Saints announced Millar Mills' departure from the club, alongside back row Sam Graham. Within that announcement, Director of Rugby Phil Dowson praised him for his progress during his time at the club.

"Elliot’s story is unique. After the demise of Wasps he nearly fell out of the game, initially joining us on trial, but he departs the Club as a Scotland international," Dowson said. "We’re proud of his progress; he has become a prop who is effective all over the park, fitting well with how we want to play the game."

Speaking about his move, Millar Mills said he was relishing the opportunity to be part of Newcastle’s next chapter. “I’m really excited to be joining Newcastle at such an important time for the club," he said. "They’re going through a full re-build, and it feels like a great opportunity to be part of something new and ambitious.

“I’ve had a class couple of years at Northampton Saints and I’ve been privileged to play in a lot of big games over the last few seasons. I’m really grateful for that time, and now I’m looking forward to making more great memories at Newcastle and getting to know the new squad up there.”

Newcastle sporting general manager Neil McIlroy believes the experienced forward will play a vital role in strengthening the club’s pack.

“Elliot has been going well for Northampton and Scotland over the last couple of seasons, and will help give us that forward foundation.” he said. “He’s a hard worker who gets on with the basics of the game, and I know he’ll be a great addition during a really crucial period for us.”
