Leicester 29 - 19 Harlequins: Quins Player Ratings following away PREM defeat to Tigers

The travelling team were 0-19 ahead shortly after halftime, but an impressive capitulation let slip the lead and meant that Quins went home with nothing. Tries from Jack van Poortvliet and Ollie Hassell-Collins along with a double from Will Wand secured a memorable comeback.

Great first scrum against his opposite man and England team mate Joe Heyes but like the rest of the team he didn’t have to do much carrying in the first half as Quins rarely had much of the ball. Could not have been a more different story for the second half, the home team much more on top at scrum time with all the momentum behind them, it was a monumentally poor display in the second half from the whole team.

It wasn’t the weather that Walker would’ve wanted this morning when he woke up with the gales. The lineout had been simplified because of it (to the front or there was no lift) but then Tigers started to read it well and it became much more of a gamble. What was also a massive gamble was pulling back on a Tigers player after a half break by Jack van Poortvliet, one he didn’t win as he ended up in the bin.

Like his scrummaging partner got the edge over the Leicester scrum in the first half but the tide started to turn after halftime. The tighthead really upped the Londoner’s physicality against what was a proper physical Leicester Tigers team before it went downhill.

Great steal early on when Tigers looked to try and build some early pressure and carried really physically and really put his weight about but struggled once Geoff Parling’s team got the momentum and the wind behind them.

A proper energetic performance and was flying through the lineout after the ball came out, think van Poortvleit may still feel like he sees him in his peripheral vision, then like the rest of his team went a bit missing in the second half.

Looked like an extra out of Saw after his bloodied nose was stitched back up, and he was scaring Tigers as well when he was on Alex Dombrandt's shoulder to be the link man between him and Porter for the scrum halves score. Overall though the only scary thing was that finishing scoreline from a Quins perspective.

Showed his skills with the boot as he cleared from his own tryline after the Cunningham-South steal, the ball creeping into the home team's half. Looked to have injured his knee from a clear out by his opposite man Emeka Ilione, but luckily managed to play on. The flanker didn’t have massive amounts of luck at the breakdown with the officials not opting to reward either team at jackling.

Picked some nice lines for some half breaks early on and that was shown in great detail when he found a huge amount of space in front of him at a kick reception. A lovely turn of pace and a wonderful out the back offload found Jack Kenningham who found Porter for his score. It looked like he was right back to his best. The captain was subbed off before the real onslaught occurred.

“A box kicker’s nightmare” the wind Danny Care said on the TnT Sports coverage and it really looked like that, going too long or too short was almost guaranteed to happen. Porter was great around the park in the first 40 but then couldn’t find that same control in the second forty.

Really struggled with the kicking from hand in the wind in the first half that looked to be in his favour, the ball either going too long or missing touch and was pretty weak defensively . However he was a different player, ball in hand, constantly looking to attack, even from deep.

Got beaten in the air brilliantly by Adam Radwan but looked absolutely electric when he got the ball, he is frighteningly quick in space but looked a little too weak defensively at times, albeit he was up against Radwan.

Hadn’t started at 12 for Quins before and looked a little disconnected with Beard early on but he soon tightened up. I don’t think he would want to see Solomone Kata running down his channel again anytime soon. He did absolutely hammer a penalty in from his own half though in the first half.

Looked his quick footed self early on, stepping from left to right and dancing past the first tacklers but then disappeared in the second half, struggling to keep a resurgent Leicester team out.

Wonderful break halfway through the first half but doesn’t seem to see Tyrone Green on his shoulder who could’ve been in under the posts if he had passed, other than that he unfortunately wasn’t really involved as much as he would’ve liked.

Think he beat around six defenders in the space of about one metre. Incredible tenacity to not give up when he runs back with the ball. Unfortunately the home team’s kick chase improved and he just couldn’t find that space anymore.

Came on after Walker was yellow carded and was on full fire fighter mode, sadly the fire was a bit too big to put out really as Quins capitulated.

Helped shore up the scrum a little when he came on but couldn’t stop the Tigers momentum late on.

The replacement prop struggled at times last season and unfortunately there wasn’t much rest bite for the Samaon international. He went backwards at first against a resurgent Tigers scrum and then went too early in the next one to concede the freekick and looked lost at times on the pitch.

Struggled with the physicality but the odds were against him when he came on.

The big 21 year old played an extended period in the first half after Kenningham went off to have a blood injury treated and didn’t look too out of place, a lovely one handed catch from the sideline showed what class he could be in the future, even had 25 minutes at eight too.

Was sharp and quick when he got on but never got the ball in hand at all really, and didn’t look great defensively.

Replaced Nick David and didn’t really get involved that much as it was all Tigers late on.
