Red Roses nominated for Sports Personality Team of the Year Award - Latest Odds Revealed

It was England’s first world title for 11 years and capped a dominant 12 months that also included a seventh consecutive Guinness Women’s Six Nations title, the WXV1 crown and an extension of their own world record winning run to 33 matches.

Despite that historic success, Betfair odds suggest the Red Roses face stiff competition in the public vote. England’s Euro-winning Lionesses are clear favourites at 1/5 to land Team of the Year, with Europe’s Ryder Cup team priced at 9/2 and the Red Roses at 9/1.

Captain Zoe Stratford echoed that sentiment, highlighting the wider significance of the nomination.

The Red Roses’ presence on the shortlist is complemented by individual recognition for full-back Ellie Kildunne, who became the first female rugby player to be shortlisted for BBC Sports Personality of the Year. However, the betting markets again underline the challenge she faces.

Betfair have Rory McIlroy as the 4/7 favourite after winning both The Masters and the Ryder Cup in 2025, with F1 world champion Lando Norris at 10/3. Lionesses star Chloe Kelly is priced at 9/2, while Kildunne sits at 40/1, having shortened from 66/1 since the shortlist was announced.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Rory McIlroy is the favourite to win this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year… In a hugely successful year for England’s women's teams, Rugby World Cup winner Ellie Kildunne has shortened from 66/1 to 40/1 for the award since the shortlist was announced.

“Both the England women's rugby and football teams are expected to be popular in the public vote, but the Euros winning Lionesses are clear favourites in this market.”

For the first time in the award’s history, Team of the Year will be decided by a live public vote during the show, giving the Red Roses a chance to convert their on-field dominance into national recognition. The BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards will be broadcast live from MediaCity, Salford, on Thursday 18 December.
