Wales player banned for three matches after dangerous action in ruck

Trevett was sent off for a dangerous clear-out deemed reckless and targeting the lower limbs, breaching Law 9.20(e). The Foul Play Review Committee (FPRC), consisting of independent panelists Philippe Cavalieros, Olly Kohn, and John Langford, reviewed the incident on 5 July without Trevett or his team present.

The committee set a mid-range six-match suspension as the entry point but reduced it to three matches due to mitigating factors and the player’s acceptance of the charge.

As a result, Trevett will miss Wales’ upcoming U20 World Championship matches on 9 July against Spain and two subsequent fixtures later in the tournament. This decision forms part of a trial expedited off-field sanction process aimed at speeding up disciplinary actions in age-grade international rugby, balancing player safety with the integrity of competition.

The ruling reinforces World Rugby’s firm stance on dangerous play and highlights the increasing emphasis on player welfare, especially among younger players.
