Ospreys 43-0 Benetton: Player Ratings as Ospreys hit Italians for six in dominant victory

The visitors looked sharp in Swansea on Friday evening but were denied an early score after Thomas Gallo spilled the ball over the line but it was the Ospreys who would score the first points of the game, Boshoff brushed off an attempted tackle from Albornoz and had the support of Morgan-Williams and Walsh to finish off a lovely try.

Jack Walsh resumed his fine form by finding a 50-22 moments later after the Ospreys showed the confidence to play out from their 22. A resulting penalty allowed Williams to extend the home sides lead to ten points.

The Ospreys went over for their try through winger Kasende following some weak tackles from the Italians. Justin Tipuric popped the ball over to his winger for an easy finish, converted by Williams. The Ospreys scrum dominance was showing and following another penalty, they managed to go over for their third try through Kieran Williams.

The Ospreys capitalised on this error-strewn half from Benetton, with the visitors wasting another big attacking opportunity and found themselves with a pleasing half time lead. Lewis Lloyd made a big try saving tackle on the flying Izekor to keep the visitors scoreless.

Benetton looked to have woken up after the interval, but the weather conditions began to worsen for heavy rain affecting both teams.

Jack Walsh went over for his second try, securing the bonus point for his side. A really clever try with Kieran Williams playing Warren through a small gap and the fullback was in support to finish off the move.

An injury to replacement Balan Velez meant that the visitors would play the remaining eight minutes with a man down. And with the extra man, the ospreys scored their fifth try of the night as Morgan Morse powered over from the back of a scrum.

And Kieran Hardy’s try after the 80^th minute concluded a fantastic night for the Ospreys as they thumped the Italians by over 40 points in miserable conditions to go five matches unbeaten in all competitions.

9. Reuben Morgan-Williams: 7/10 - Lively performance and put his side on the front foot with quick ball. Great support line for the Ospreys opening try, linking well with his fullback Jack Walsh.

7. Justin Tipuric: 9/10 – Led from the front, putting a player of the match performance. Setting up tries, and winning turnovers.

6. James Ratti: 6/10 – Nuisance at ruck time for Benetton and did his job with a solid defensive performance.

5. James Fender: 7/10 – The talented second row put in a big shift, and showed his slick hands with clever offloads.

4. Will Spencer: 6/10 Put in a top performance for the 60 minutes of action he took part in. Secured the ball at lineout times.

2. Lewis Lloyd: 6/10 – Scrummaged well and accurate with lineouts. Made an incredible try saving tackle on Izekor but injured himself in the process. Seen in crutches at full time so hopefully nothing serious.

1. Gareth Phillips: 7/10 – Scrummaged well and put in a big shift in defence

18. Ben Warren: 7/10 – Played a big role in the fourth try, with a clean break.

20. Morgan Morse: 7.5/10 – showed why he is so highly rated at such a young age with another top performance off the bench.

21. Kieran Hardy: 7.5/10 - His late try concluded the scoring for the night and put in a big shift off the bench. Box kicked well, putting the Benetton back 3 under pressure.
