STATEMENT: Scotland Chief Dismissed with Immediate Effect

The governing body announced that its board had taken the decision after concluding an investigation into matters that were brought to its attention earlier this year. Scottish Rugby said the findings of the investigation led the board to determine that Williamson’s conduct had fallen below the standards expected by the organisation.

In a brief statement, John McGuigan, Chair of Scottish Rugby Limited, said: “The board of Scottish Rugby has today dismissed Alex Williamson from his position as chief executive with immediate effect.

“His dismissal follows the conclusion of an independent investigation into matters that were brought to the board’s attention earlier this year.

“In light of the investigation findings the board of Scottish Rugby concluded that the CEO’s conduct had fallen significantly below the standards we set as an organisation.”

No further details regarding the nature of the matters investigated were included in the statement. Scottish Rugby has not yet confirmed who will take over the role on an interim basis or outlined the process for appointing Williamson’s successor.
