Sale Sharks make Tom Curry transfer decision

Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson has confirmed Curry is among a core group of players Sale want to tie down, despite the 28-year-old enduring several significant injury setbacks in recent seasons.

Curry has spent his entire professional career at Sale after making his senior debut as a teenager in 2016, going on to become a key figure for both England and the British & Irish Lions.

Speaking to Daily Mail Sport

“I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag but Tom’s one of the lads we’ve talked to,” he said.

“Tom, Bevan Rodd, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Joe Carpenter, Tom Roebuck, Nathan Jibulu. Cohesion is king.”

Curry’s injury record has not deterred the Sharks. He underwent major hip surgery following the 2023 Rugby World Cup, before further wrist and calf problems interrupted his rugby.

Sale are determined not to repeat previous mistakes by waiting too long to begin negotiations with their biggest stars.

Sanderson explained: “Five years ago, when I came in at the start of a new season, I was talking to AJ MacGinty in the middle of September thinking, ‘I’ve got until Christmas here’, but by that point he had already signed for Bristol.

“It was a shock to me. That was a bit of a wake-up call.

“You’ve got to get onto these lads early because as soon as they’re out of contract they will have agents talking and other lads approaching them.”

Securing Curry beyond Australia 2027 would be a major piece of business for Sale, with Sanderson clearly prioritising continuity among the core of his squad.
