Making your Gallagher Premiership Rugby debut is always a special experience – but to score a try on that occasion really puts the icing on the cake.
Here, we take a look at the five youngest Premiership try-scorers on debut in history - and where they are now.
5. Ioan Lloyd, 18 years 196 days, Bristol Bears v Bath (23 October 2019)
As fairytale debuts go, Lloyd’s could hardly have gone better. He even landed a late conversion to complete the dominant 43-16 triumph for Bears over their local neighbours. The 19-year-old continues to be a very exciting prospect at Ashton Gate.
4. Billy Vunipola, 18 years 165 days, Wasps v Yorkshire Carnegie (17 April 2011)
Now known for his exploits with the reigning Gallagher Premiership Rugby and European champions Saracens, the powerhouse number eight first made a name for himself at Wasps.
Vunipola came off the bench against Yorkshire Carnegie, then known as Leeds, and crashed over the whitewash from a ruck just short of the tryline in the 51-18 triumph.
3. Tom Curry, 18 years 137 days, Sale Sharks v Bristol Bears (30 Oct 2016)
Currently tearing it up on the international stage with England, the flanker first grabbed the headlines for club side Sale Sharks as he enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2016/17.
Curry had already made his professional debut against Scarlets in the Heineken Champions Cup, before coming off the bench for his Premiership Rugby debut two weeks later.
The back-rower featured during Sale’s trip to Ashton Gate and it took just five minutes of his first-ever appearance in English Rugby’s top flight to get on the scoresheet.
2. Mathew Tait, 18 years and 85 days, Newcastle Falcons v London Irish (2 May 2004)
He may have ended up on the losing side in his Premiership Rugby debut but Mathew Tait certainly left his mark as he scored a stunning try for Newcastle Falcons against London Irish.
The playmakers first contact with the ball was well inside the Newcastle half, from where he cut through the opposition defence and crossed the line for one of the best tries of the season.
Tait moved to Sale in 2008 before joining Leicester Tigers three years later, where the former England international spent the rest of his career before retiring in 2019.
1. Jamie Elliott, 18 years 80 days, Northampton Saints v Sale Sharks (19 Nov 2010)
Not just the youngest Premiership Rugby try scorer on debut, Jamie Elliott still remains the youngest ever scorer in the English top flight thanks to his effort against Sale Sharks.
Despite battling with injuries throughout much of his career, Elliott often found himself on the scoresheet when he did play as he went on to make more than 100 appearances for Saints.
The former England U20 international left Franklin's Gardens in 2018, joining Bedford Blues for a short stint before moving to Zebre, where he still turns out today.
