Wales international suspended following disciplinary hearing

The Wales number eight, who had previously been sin-binned in the match, was dismissed for a dangerous clearout.

In a statement, the Ospreys confirmed that Moriarty accepted he had committed foul play.

The club’s statement read: “The disciplinary process relating to Ross Moriarty’s red card in the BKT United Rugby Championship Round 13 fixture against Benetton on Saturday, March 21 has resulted in a three-game suspension.

“Following an act of foul play by Ospreys No. 8 Ross Moriarty, referee Ian Kenny issued a red card in the 63rd minute under Law 9.20a – dangerous play in a ruck or maul.

"A player must not charge into a ruck or maul, with charging defined as making contact without binding onto another player in that situation.”

An independent disciplinary panel determined the offence merited a six-week ban. However, this was reduced by 50% due to Moriarty’s good disciplinary record, remorse, and exemplary behaviour throughout the process.

The suspension could be further reduced to two matches if Moriarty completes the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme.

He will definitely miss the Ospreys’ away fixture against Connacht on Saturday, as well as the Challenge Cup last-16 tie against Ulster on Saturday, April 4.

If he does not complete the World Rugby course, the 31-year-old may also be unavailable for a potential Challenge Cup quarter-final or the URC clash with the Sharks on April 18.
