Wales head coach Matt Sherratt calls up trio to Six Nations squad - includes Gareth Anscombe

Newly appointed Wales interim head coach Matt Sherratt has wasted no time in bringing new faces into his squad, with a trio of call-ups confirmed to have joined his training group today. Sherratt took over from Warren Gatland earlier this week, after the New Zealander was unable to lead Wales to a Test match win in 14 consecutive fixtures.

The final nail in the coffin for Gatland was last weekend's defeat in the Six Nations, as Wales succumbed to a 22-15 loss to Italy in the Stadio Olimpico. This was the second consecutive defeat to the Azzurri for Wales, who are now expected to collect the wooden spoon from the 2025 Guinness Men's Six Nations.

Harlequins fly-half Jarrod Evans along with Gloucester fly-half Gareth Anscombe and centre Max Llewellyn have been called up to the Welsh squad for the remainder of the Six Nations. They will join the setup next Monday to prepare for the Ireland encounter at Principality Stadium on Saturday 22 February. Saracens fullback Liam Williams has left the squad following a knee injury after the opening game against France.

In other big news, Rob Howley remains under contract with the WRU but will not be part of the Wales coaching team for the remaining three fixtures against Ireland, Scotland and England.
