Transfer Rumour: Argentina bad-boy on the move again

According to News24, the Cape side are deep in negotiations with experienced Argentina international Tomás Lavanini, with Dobson targeting added steel in the second row following the expected departures of Salmaan Moerat and Ruben van Heerden.

Lavanini, who is closing in on a century of Test appearances for Argentina national rugby union team, is widely regarded as one of the game’s most physical — and at times controversial — locks.

Standing at around 2.01m and weighing over 120kg, he brings serious ballast to the tight five, with his abrasive edge often walking the disciplinary tightrope.

Born in Buenos Aires, Lavanini came through the ranks in Argentina before making his Test debut in 2013. He quickly established himself as a mainstay in the Pumas engine room, featuring in multiple Rugby World Cup campaigns, including the 2015 edition where Argentina reached the semi-finals.

The 33-year-old is currently with the Highlanders in Super Rugby Pacific and brings a wealth of top-level experience. Over the course of his globe-trotting career, he has represented the Jaguares, Racing 92, Clermont, Lyon and Leicester Tigers, gaining a reputation across both hemispheres for his uncompromising style.

If the deal is completed, Lavanini’s experience and physicality could prove crucial for the Stormers as Dobson reshapes his forward pack for the challenges ahead.
