“Toughen up” – Marcus Smith made ‘unique’ move to rugby league

Sean Long, the former Great Britain No. 7 and current attack coach at Quins, departed the Premiership club to rejoin Leeds Rhinos in the Super League.

England fly-half Smith wanted to join the Rhinos for a brief stint, aiming to amplify his skills and elevate his game.

“Marcus texted me recently and asked if he could come up to Leeds Rhinos,” Long told The Yorkshire Post.

“He asked if he could come and train with us and I said of course he can. I squared it off with Rich.

“Marcus wants to just come and see what it’s like with us and see what it’s like training in rugby league.

“It’s not that he wants to change codes or anything; he just wants to look at the challenges of rugby league compared to rugby union as he is always wanting to improve.

“Marcus told me he wants to come up and toughen up a bit. That’s all about his own personal development.

“He is an outstanding player but what I like about him is he’s not finished yet; he’s wanting to learn and learn and learn.”

Their engagement in March coincided with her birthday on the 24th. Afterwards Anlia wrote on Instagram: “By far the BEST day of my life!. By far the BEST day of my life! Thank you for giving me an unforgettable birthday! It was a Holy moment and I do not know if I have ever been so speechless… You are just everything @ebenetzebeth4 On life with you!”

She is one of Alan’s three children with wife Lainya, who he met early on in his illustrious career, while playing for Southampton.
