The five 'best' young England players from 2019 totally 'flopped'

They exciting were tipped to be a new generation of young England players compared to the supply line that ultimately culminated in the 2003 World Cup triumph for Sir Clive Woodward's side.

Some have since shined for club and country while others have failed to establish themselves or even find themselves playing in Israel.

Where is he now? The arrival of Dan Biggar saw the youngster drop down the pecking order at Franklin's Gardens while the likes of Marcus Smith and Joe Simmonds have become first choice for Harlequins and Exeter respectively

They said: "While he was sidelined for long periods last season with injury, he’s returned with a bang and has demonstrated he is a very potent finisher on the near-elite level he showed in 2017 at the World Rugby U20 Championships. Should his electric form continue, he has to be considered for the next England squad."

Where is he now? The speedster has gone from being involved in an England training camp and tipped by head coach Eddie Jones to be a future superstar to playing in Israel in the space of three seasons. He was also nominated for Junior World Player of the Year in 2018. Ibitoye made the controversial decision to leave Harlequins in 2020, but would be a free agent just a few months later after securing his release by mutual consent.

The 23-year-old, who scored eight tries for England U20, then joined Montpellier as a medical joker but was released without making an appearance in late 2021. After failing to find a club, he signed with Tel Aviv Heat, an Israeli team, in the Rugby Europe Super Cup.

Where is he now? Decided to play for Scotland like this father after joining Bath.

At 6ft 5in and 19st 9lbs, with possibly still room to grow, Kpoku offers excellent set-piece capabilities and carrying potential combined with a decent defensive work-rate. Where is he now? Since making his Sarries debut, he has made over 40 appearances for McCall’s side and his second-row partnership with Maro Itoje has become a real force up front. Still yet to receive an England call-up.

Where is he now? The only player on the list to win a number of caps so far, he will be hoping to earn a recall ahead of the Autumn Nations Series
