New Zealand Rugby (NZR) has launched legal action against Ineos, accusing the global chemical giant of breaching their sponsorship contract in a move that could cost the national body millions.

NZR informed provincial unions today that Ineos, owned by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has walked away from its six-year sponsorship deal three years early—failing to make its first scheduled payment for 2025.

The agreement, signed in 2022, saw Ineos branding appear on the jerseys of the All Blacks, Black Ferns, and both sevens teams. But with Ratcliffe reportedly wanting out immediately, that branding is set to disappear.
