A young Springboks fan stole the show at the HSBC SVNS in Dubai, ahead of the Final clash between Australia and New Zealand. Entrusted to bring the ball out onto the pitch and pass ahead of kick off, the South Africa supporter stunned the stadium with a brilliant show of support for the Boks.
Keeping the Rugby Championship rivalry well and truly burning between the trio of Southern Hemisphere nations, the youngster was hiding a Springboks jersey as he entered the pitch. After presenting the match ball to get the action underway, the unmistakable green and gold jersey was then on full display, with the fan showing off the jersey as he ran to the side-lines. The clip has gone viral across social media, and you can listen to the commentators react to it here;
Whilst New Zealand ultimately prevailed 26-22 in the final, all the attention stuck with the pre-match antics of the young Springboks supporter. The social media response was a mixed one to say the least, with rugby fans of all backgrounds weighing in on the move.
"The kid just reminded them who the real kings are. Springbok rugby is selling the game at a different level. Far beyond what any side did before them. Rugbys future is being solidified." Said one Springboks fan on X.
"The “make this moment about the Boks” starts early in life it appears." Said another user, who clearly is not the biggest fan of Rassie Erasmus' side.
"That is being South African at best - we shine everywhere we go. No amount of hatred will silence us - even playing with 14 men." Another said, evidently passionate about the men in green and gold.
😆 "That is cheeky!"
Before the SVNS final between Australia and New Zealand, the mascot whipped out a Springboks jersey while running off the field 😂
The tournament heads to Cape Town this weekend 🇿🇦
