George was simultaneously shown a yellow card and sent for a head injury assessment before somewhat surprisingly returning to the field once he had served 10 minutes in the sin bin.

George played out the rest of the opening 40 minutes before the games indented doctor stepped and requested his removal.

Progressive Rugby added: "In our view England hooker Jamie George demonstrated clear category 1 symptoms and has wrongly undergone a HIA instead of being permanently removed. We say this error has again seen a player returned to the field at risk. We ask that @epcrugby investigate as a matter of urgency."

Northampton forward, Lawes, is in danger of missing England's training camp this week due to a calf injury, raising concerns about his participation in the start of the Six Nations.

On Saturday, he was forced to leave the game before halftime during a loss against La Rochelle in the Heineken Champions Cup, adding to his season's struggles with injuries.

Asked about the injury sustained by his flanker on Saturday, Northampton’s director of rugby, Phil Dowson, said: "He had a tight calf and didn’t feel like he could play on.

"He’ll get it scanned and I’m sure England will be waiting on that."

Vunipola withdrew in the warm-up with a sore foot ahead of Saracens clash with Glasgow.
