Statement: Team GB Sevens star is under investigation for leaked WhatsApp conversation

The British Olympic Association (BOA) has confirmed it has launched an investigation into a social media post that appears to show women’s sevens player Amy Wilson Hardy making a racist comment.

According to reports by Rugby Pass and Mail Online, the BOA is examining a WhatsApp conversation between Hardy and an unidentified third party.

The leaked conversation includes a picture sent by Hardy, showing her wearing what appears to be a black facemask.

"The British Olympic Association has been made aware of an image published on a social media platform and is investigating the matter," a BOA spokesperson said in a statement.

The 32-year-old is part of Team GB's rugby sevens squad for the Paris Olympic Games, having also been part of the squad for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

During the draw, the 24 participating teams will be divided into six pools, each consisting of four teams. Notably, this draw will transpire before the regional qualifiers have concluded, resulting in a dual-world approach.

On one side, we have the twelve automatic qualifiers from the 2023 Rugby World Cup, confirmed by their names. On the other side, the regional qualifiers will be represented as Africa 1, Europe 1, Europe 2, and so forth.

Rugby World Cup 2027 is set to be hosted in Australia, marking the eleventh edition of the Men's Rugby World Cup and the third time it will take place in Australia. The country previously co-hosted the inaugural Rugby World Cup with New Zealand in 1987 and served as the sole host in 2003.
