Sale Sharks have confirmed that powerhouse back-rower Jean-Luc du Preez will leave the club at the end of the current campaign, as he heads off to chase a fresh challenge overseas.
The 29-year-old has become a fan favourite since arriving in the North West in 2019, joining on a permanent deal alongside twin brother Dan after a loan stint from the Durban-based Sharks.

150 Appearances, Countless Hits

From day one, Jean-Luc brought physicality, passion, and plenty of brotherly bonding to the Sale back row. With almost 150 appearances in the tank, he's been a mainstay in a fearsome Sharks pack, regularly lining up alongside Dan and older brother Rob.
This season alone, he’s racked up 20 appearances in all competitions, including a dozen in the Gallagher Premiership, and dotted down for one try.

“A Place I Now Call Home”

Speaking about his departure, Jean-Luc paid a heartfelt tribute to the club, the fans, and the city that embraced him.

“Sale is a special place. A place where I’m excited to go in and see the boys every day. A place that has given me and my family so much – and most importantly, a place I now call home.

It’s been one hell of a ride. I’ll genuinely miss the club and the people who’ve helped me grow on and off the field. I’m grateful to everyone.”

He also had a special shoutout for the fans:

“Thank you for backing us through thick and thin, thank you for being our 24th man. I’ll be supporting the boys from afar – and I know this club is heading for great things.”

“Everyone’s Going to Miss Him” – Alex Sanderson

Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson was full of emotion as he paid tribute to the Springbok.

“We understand his reasons, but we’re gutted he’s leaving. Everyone – especially his brothers – will miss him.

I’ve only worked with him for four years, but I’ve got so much love for him. Saying goodbye won’t be easy, especially for Jean-Luc, because he’s leaving behind a club and a group that truly loves him.”
