STATEMENT: New Zealand Rugby Boss to Step Down

In a major shake-up at the top, New Zealand Rugby (NZR) has confirmed that CEO Mark Robinson will step down at the end of 2025.

Robinson, who has led NZR for six years, will leave the organisation to join his family in Australia, where his children are studying.

“Mark has led with passion and steered the ship through some of rugby’s most challenging times,” said NZR Chair David Kirk. “From navigating a global pandemic to driving major change on and off the field, his impact has been huge.”

Kirk praised Robinson’s leadership, highlighting his ability to handle the pressure of the COVID era and modernise the game at both domestic and international levels.

“We understand Mark’s desire to be closer to family, and he leaves with our full support and best wishes,” Kirk added.

The NZR Board will now begin the search for his replacement, with Robinson set to stay on until the end of the year to see through key projects.

In a heartfelt statement, Robinson said it was a “privilege” to lead NZR, building on a career that has seen him serve the organisation as a player, board member, and CEO.

“My family are now based in Australia and it’s time I joined them,” Robinson said. “The past six years have brought rapid change and unprecedented challenges, but I truly believe NZR is in a strong place for the future.”

He added:

“It’s been an incredible journey working alongside people who live and breathe this game. From grassroots to the All Blacks, the hunger to improve and honour our rugby legacy is something I’ll always be proud of.”
