Statement: Lukhanyo Am departs club with immediate effect

The 31-year-old is returning to Japan for the second time in his career, after a stint with the Kobelco Kobe Steelers in 2022. Known for his ability to read the game and break the line, Am has been a linchpin for South Africa and the Sharks alike.

Since joining the Sharks in 2016, he has spent the bulk of his career in Durban, even captaining the side at Kings Park, and earning a reputation as one of the most reliable centres in world rugby.

He now heads to a Dynaboars team that finished ninth in the top division last season. Their new campaign kicks off on December 13, when they take on the Urayasu D-Rocks.
