Statement: International star departs Leicester Tigers with immediate effect

Leicester Tigers have confirmed that Ben Volavola will depart the club this summer following a single season at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

The 34-year-old fly-half linked up with the Tigers in August 2024, arriving just before the season began. His signing followed stints in Super Rugby with the Waratahs and spells in France with Racing 92, Perpignan, and Agen.

Despite an injury-disrupted campaign, Volavola featured ten times for Leicester, including seven appearances from the bench during their impressive run to the Gallagher Premiership Final, tallying 25 points in total.

Reflecting on his impact, Tigers General Manager Richard Wilks praised the Fijian playmaker:

“Ben Volavola is one of the good guys, one of the best. From a chance meeting with Michael Cheika in Paris to flying out to Portugal for pre-season with no guarantees, he’s been outstanding from day one.

“Always smiling, always willing to help — Ben has been the ultimate professional and a huge contributor behind the scenes. His influence has far outweighed his time on the pitch, which is saying something given the injury setbacks he faced.

“We were thrilled to have him back for the business end of the season. His display against Sale Sharks in the playoffs said it all. On behalf of everyone at Tigers, I wish Ben and his family the very best for what comes next. He’ll always be welcome back at Welford Road.”

Volavola now becomes a free agent as he considers his next move in professional rugby.
