Despite Gloucester’s efforts to keep hold of the versatile playmaker, the 26-year-old has decided to take on a fresh challenge after four seasons at Kingsholm.

Carreras joined the Cherry & Whites midway through the 2020/21 campaign and has since become a fan favourite, making 77 appearances for the club. Gloucester’s Director of Rugby, George Skivington, admitted that while the news will disappoint supporters, the club respects his decision.

“We understand this will be disappointing news for Gloucester supporters. Santi is an incredible talent, a favourite at Kingsholm, and amongst the players and staff,” Skivington said.

“Despite our best efforts, Santi has made the decision to take on a new challenge for him and his family, and we of course respect his decision. He will give everything to the shirt until the end of the season.”

Carreras also paid tribute to the club and the famous Kingsholm crowd.

"I am very grateful to Gloucester Rugby for giving me the opportunity to come and play in the Premiership. Playing at Kingsholm and in front of The Shed is something I will never forget,” he said.

"It will sadden me to leave, but I feel this is the right time in my career to try something new. I am looking forward to finishing my time at Gloucester in the best possible way.”

Carreras will depart Kingsholm with the best wishes of the club as he prepares for his next chapter in the West Country.
