Bath Rugby have confirmed that Ruaridh McConnochie and Louis Schreuder will be waving goodbye to the Rec at the end of the 2024/25 season.

The Olympic silver medallist and England international has announced his retirement from professional rugby, ready to swap boots for a whistle as he steps into coaching.
“Almost 10 years to the day since I walked into England Sevens, I feel now is the right time to step away from a game that’s given me everything,” said McConnochie. “I’m grateful to be going out on my own terms.”
His story is one for the books. From Olympic podiums with Team GB in Rio to Twickenham with England and some unforgettable moments in the Blue, Black and White — McConnochie has earned his place among Bath’s modern icons.
He paid tribute to the coaches, teammates, and supporters who helped shape his career, saving special praise for his wife Vick:
“My number one supporter through it all. From early starts to late-night ice runs and everything in between – this journey wouldn't have been the same without you.”
McConnochie’s next chapter lies in coaching and education, but he leaves behind memories that will last a lifetime — both for himself and the fans who’ve cheered him on.
Meanwhile, Louis Schreuder will also be moving on after three influential seasons at Bath.
The experienced scrum-half joined from Newcastle Falcons in 2022, adding class, control, and a winning mentality honed from stints in South Africa, Japan, and France.
“The last three years have been a privilege,” said Schreuder. “It’s been an honour to wear the badge and be part of such a proud tradition. The club’s in a great place, and I truly believe the best is still to come.”
With over 50 appearances for the club, Schreuder brought calm in chaos and leadership in pressure moments — a vital cog in Bath’s recent rebuild.
Head of Rugby Johann van Graan praised both men for their commitment and impact.
“Ruaridh is one of the best human beings I’ve coached,” said van Graan. “He’s a leader, a competitor, and a role model.”
On Schreuder: “I’ve been lucky to coach Louis here and with the Springboks. He’s a proper team man and a big part of our journey over the last three years.”
