Bristol Bears have made a major move in the back row, signing 23-cap Georgian international Luka Ivanishvili from Black Lion with immediate effect ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
The versatile forward – who can slot in at 6, 7 or 8 – arrives after racking up 30 appearances and 11 tries across four bruising seasons in Georgia's top domestic setup. The Bears beat off a host of French Top 14 clubs to secure the 23-year-old’s signature.
Ivanishvili broke onto the international scene in the 2022 Rugby Europe Championship and featured at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Most recently, he turned heads with a huge shift against the reigning world champs South Africa.

Director of Rugby Pat Lam said:

“Luka is a young powerful, all-action back-row forward with huge potential, who will strengthen the depth and competition in our back-row.”

“He is comfortable wearing six, seven or eight, where he likes to bring physicality, especially in his defence and at the breakdown with his ability to win turnovers.

He showed in his performances recently versus South Africa what a talent he is.

“He is hungry and determined to continue his development and grow his game, so we’re excited to be welcoming him into our Bears family.”

Ivanishvili added:

“I’m excited to be joining the Bears and playing in the Gallagher PREM – one of the best competitions in the world.

“After speaking to Pat Lam, hearing about the club’s vision and ambitions and seeing the world class facilities, I know this is the perfect place for the next step in my career.”
