South Africa Player Ratings: Women's Rugby World Cup

After a rousing and emotive set of anthems, the match started in a fast and furious fashion. Nadine Roos flew over and dotted under the posts with Byrhandre Dolf adding the extras.

South Africa got their second as Aseza Hele powered her over in punishing style.

The debutants got on the scoreboard next with a routine penalty kick from Raquel Kochhann, which was just rewards for their gritty defending.

Despite this, South Africa utterly dominated the territory game, camped out in the Brazilian half for the vast majority of the first half.

Hele got her second try in similar style to her first, demonstrating her elite ball-carrying ability. The number eight made the most breaks in the 2021 Rugby World Cup and could be set to continue her impressive form.

Zintle Malinga added another as the clock turned red with a zippy finish. Dolf was accurate off the tee again to mark off a strong half for South Africa.

The rout ensued in the second half with Hele completing her hat-trick with another trademark carry.

Libbie Janse van Rensburg added another score as South Africa found space in the tiring Brazilian defence. She got her second just minutes later as she broke through and ran away from oncoming defenders.

Aphiwe Ngwevu got herself try before Brazil finally found their feet.

Darting runs from Edna Santini and Jacomina Cilliers helped Brazil into a small period of possession and troubled South Africa.

Malinga ended the brave Brazilian attack as she found herself in space down the left wing to score.

The Brazilian defence was daring and aggressive throughout, which is a huge credit to them in their first ever Rugby World Cup.

South Africa notched another after Brazil overthrew the ball at the lineout and Lerato Makua gratefully caught the ball and crashed over.

Malinga had a last-minute try ruled out for obstruction and Brazil pressed to score their first try. However, a knock on at the breakdown ended their hopes.

Lovely kicking off of the tee. She was a rock at the back of the park and did not look uncomfortable at all. Dancing feet too.

Received the ball a few times in the first half and made a couple of breaks before being shut down. Lively in the wide channels.

Not quite as effective as her fellow backs. Threw a loose pass into touch on the 41st minute, which could of sent Samboya into a lot of open space.

A player of the match performance from Ngwevu. At the heart of absolutely everything for South Africa. Defending and attacking on point. Her try was very well taken.

Electric and fast but faced a significant battle against Brazilian winger Edna Santini. Her try before half time was excellently taken.

Ran the show. Picked out the right runners and released her forwards around her to devastating effect. However, she kicked a penalty dead and dropped the ball over the line just before Malinga's try.

Started the game wonderfuly with a try inside two minutes. Created a load of quick ball and threw some lovely passes to her onrushing teammates. Maker of Hele's hat-trick try with a deft chip over the last defender.

Unbelievable work in the scrum. Her opposite number will be having nightmares for weeks to come about Charlie's ruthlessness at the set piece.

2. Linedlwa Gwala - 7

Part of a huge scrummaging performance. Dominant carries and collisions across the match. Job well done.

Had a try disallowed as she knocked on over the line in the 18th minute. Some huge carries and dominated in the scrum.

Will not take the plaudits as others performed and took the headlines but Booi should be very proud of her side's performance.

5. Danelle Lochner - 7

Powerful and brilliant. Defended well and drove the opposition back all game. Secured the ball cleanly and efficiently in the breakdown.

Operated effectively at blindside and ensured Brazil did not have a sniff down her channel. Performed exactly how a blindside should.

Lineout and scrummaging work was top class. Did not put a foot wrong and helped her side very well to victory.

Star of the show in the first half. Creator of Roos' try as she broke the line before offloading to release the scrum half over the line. A brace of tries in the first 40 and she completed her hat-trick on the 43rd minute. All eyes should be on her in the midst of a very strong South African pack.

A masterstroke from the South African coaching team to empty the bench at once before the 50th minute. South Africa have reinvented the bomb squad yet again and the replacements played superbly well, continuing exactly where the starting team finished off. Vainah Ubisi and Lerato Makua added their weight to the breakdown and the scrummaging was world class.
