Sir Ian McGeechan Issues Health Update After Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Legendary former Scotland and British & Irish Lions head coach Sir Ian McGeechan has opened up about his recent battle with prostate cancer.

Speaking ahead of the Lions' showdown with Argentina, McGeechan told Sky Sports that he had undergone a six-week course of radiotherapy earlier this year—and has now thankfully been given the all-clear.

McGeechan, 78, earned 32 caps for Scotland during his playing days, captaining the side nine times. He toured with the Lions in 1974—famously winning the series in South Africa—and again in 1977.

After hanging up his boots, he went on to become one of rugby’s most respected coaches. He guided Scotland to Five Nations Grand Slam glory in 1990 and led the Lions to memorable series wins in 1989 and 1997.

McGeechan currently serves as consultant director of rugby at Championship outfit Doncaster Knights.
