Scotland player ratings vs Ireland: Gregor Townsend's men fell to an eleventh straight defeat against the Irish in round two of the 2025 Six Nations.

Ireland continued their strong Six Nations campaign with a dominant 18-32 win over Scotland at Murrayfield.
The visitors were clinical in their approach, securing a crucial second win in as many matches following their narrow five-point victory over England last week.
Ireland sent a strong message to their Six Nations rivals with a dominant 17-0 lead within just 20 minutes, thanks to tries from Calvin Nash and captain Caelan Doris. Both were converted by Sam Prendergast, who also slotted a penalty to make his mark early on.
Things went from bad to worse for Scotland when Finn Russell and Darcy Graham collided in the second quarter. Both were forced off the field, with Graham stretchered off after a lengthy on-pitch treatment.
Scotland got a glimmer of hope just before halftime, as Duhan van der Merwe produced a stunning finish, reducing the deficit. Then, two quick penalties from Blair Kinghorn early in the second half fueled a brief belief that Scotland could mount a comeback.
But Ireland were relentless. James Lowe and Jack Conan extended their lead with two quick tries in the 55th and 62nd minutes. Prendergast remained in control, adding another penalty to make it even more comfortable for the visitors.
A late Ben White try added some respectability for the Scots, but it did little to mask their overwhelming defeat, as Ireland ran out deserved 32-15 winners.

Starting XV
15 – Blair Kinghorn – 8
An assured performance from the fullback. Kinghorn was great aerially and read play well. He was eager to support attacking plays, and his eight points from the boot gave Scotland some hope.
14 – Darcy Graham – 5
An awful sight to see as Graham left the pitch in the 22nd minute after a bad head collision with teammate Finn Russell, causing the winger to be stretchered off. Hopefully a speedy recovery for Darcy Graham.
13 – Huw Jones – 6
After scoring a hat-trick last week, Jones struggled to create chances as Ireland were quick to shut down the danger man.
12 – Tom Jordan – 6
It was a nervous performance from Jordan. A few poor passes and rushed kicks meant the exciting Scotsman didn’t play to the levels he is capable of.
11 – Duhan van der Merwe – 7
The winger received an early yellow card for foul play, but when he returned, he looked dangerous. He was kept quiet for most of the game, but his ability to break tackles and gain ground helped his nation. A tidy diving finish got Scotland onto the scoreboard.
10 – Finn Russell – 5
A difficult first quarter for the captain. Being put on the backfoot from the get-go, Russell couldn’t get his nation ticking. His head collision with Graham forced him off.
9 – Ben White – 8
Back-to-back tries, White played superbly today. He seemed to be everywhere and distributed the ball well.
1 – Rory Sutherland – 6
His first start for Scotland in three years, Sutherland displayed a competent performance against a very solid Ireland team.
2 – David Cherry – 6
The hooker threw well in the lineouts and was powerful in drives. Cherry put a lot of effort in today.
3 – Zander Fagerson – 6
Like his fellow prop, Fagerson provided defensive solidity and showed his willingness to make ground. A tough game but a good performance.
4 – Jonny Gray – 6
Against a tough forward opposition, Gray was heavily involved in defensive work and caused disruptions in lineouts.
5 – Grant Gilchrist – 7
Playing just shy of 70 minutes, the second-rower played well in a game that required a lot of defensive work.
6 – Matt Fagerson – 7
A hard-fought game from the flanker. He helped Scotland in defense and was heavily involved in the breakdowns.
7 – Rory Darge – 8
Like Fagerson, Darge played well and was one of the reasons the score stayed as low as it was. Another superb display.
8 – Jack Dempsey – 7
Dempsey was solid defensively and made plenty of tackles. However, the number 8 struggled to offer any attacking support.
Replacements
16 – Ewan Ashman – 6
Replaced Cherry early into the second half, completed the basics well.
17 – Pierre Schoeman – 6
A professional performance from the prop.
18 – Will Hurd – 5
Came on for the final 10 minutes and completed his duties.
19 – Sam Skinner – 5
Like Hurd, came on for 10 minutes and completed his duties.
20 – Gregor Brown – 5
Showed a good work rate but couldn’t really threaten the Irish side.
21 – James Ritchie – 5
Being benched from the last match, Ritchie got himself involved but was fighting a losing battle.
22 – Jamie Dobie – 6
Coming on earlier than expected, Dobie struggled to offer much of an attacking threat.
23 – Stafford McDowall – 7
McDowall played well. He also came on earlier than he would have expected, the center made a brave, under pressure offload to set up the first try.
