Newcastle Red Bulls’ Premiership campaign got off to a rocky start as Saracens delivered a commanding bonus-point win at Kingston Park. Under the Red Bull banner, the north-east side — wooden spoon holders for the past three seasons — showed early promise through Alex Hearle’s opening try.

Saracens, though down flanker Nathan Michelow to rugby’s first-ever 20-minute red card inside the opening minutes, rallied impressively. By half-time, Brandon Jackson and Andy Onyeama-Christie had crossed the line to give the visitors the lead.
The second half saw Saracens pull away with two tries from Nick Tompkins and a debut score for 18-year-old Noah Caluori, sealing the bonus point. Owen Farrell added 12 points with his boot to underline the dominance.
Freddie Clarke’s late try offered Newcastle a glimmer of pride, but the sell-out crowd of 10,210 witnessed Saracens’ resolute statement to open the season.
