Widely regarded as one of the Premiership’s most destructive ball carriers, Barbeary is expected to add significant impact to the Saracens pack as the club reshapes its squad ahead of the incoming Brendan Venter regime.

Barbeary first emerged at Wasps, joining the club’s senior academy permanently ahead of the 2019–20 season. After making an early senior appearance as a substitute hooker in a cup match in 2018, he spent time on dual registration with Nottingham in the RFU Championship to gain experience.

He announced himself on the Premiership stage on 9 September 2020, scoring a hat-trick on his first league start against Leicester at the Ricoh Arena while playing at blindside flanker. The performance made him only the second player to score a treble on a Premiership debut.

Later that year, Barbeary made his European debut at No.8, starting against both Dragons and Montpellier. His display against Montpellier was particularly impressive, combining powerful carries with offloads, kicks and a try to earn man-of-the-match honours.

An ankle syndesmosis injury ended his breakthrough year prematurely, though he returned in March 2021 and helped Wasps to a comeback win over Newcastle Falcons.

Following Wasps’ collapse into administration in October 2022, Barbeary was made redundant and subsequently joined Bath on a long-term deal.

At international level, he has represented England at under-18 and under-20 level and was called into the senior England squad in 2020. In 2024 he scored for England A against Portugal.
