Sam Warburton selects his Lions captain among his 'five definites' for 2021

Warburton retired in 2018 as the most successful Lions captain in history, being one of just two men to captain the invitational side twice and having an undefeated record of a series win and draw against Australia and New Zealand respectively.

Here's who Warburton believes is a certainty for Warren Gatland's XV in 2021.

“Stuart is certainly one of the most talented players I have ever played with, for me currently he is right up there with the best attackers in the world,”

“Sanjay has been world class since the last Lions tour, he is genuine world class. The Springboks will kick a lot and Liam Williams is so good in the air, and he got the balance of running and kicking dead right in New Zealand on the last tour."

"I think he's hands down the best tighthead in the world right now."

"The first name on the team-sheet. What about my captain? It is between Farrell and Itoje. It is such a close call. Both are definite starters (Farrell will be at 12 if not 10) and it makes perfect sense for an Englishman to be captain because most of the squad is likely to be English. I think it will be Farrell but, if I were making the decision, I would pick Itoje.”"
