Sam Simmonds sent a defiant message to Eddie Jones after scoring his twelfth Gallagher Premiership try of the season against Sale on Friday.
The Sharks gave away three soft penalties in quick succession 10 minutes into the second half, allowing Exeter to get a five-metre lineout which led to Simmonds slipping down the blindside as the hosts' defence switched off.
Simmonds battered his chest after scoring as he continues to be the best player in the Premiership this season.
Former England fly-half Andy Goode led the charge of supporters calling for the number 8 to be called up to the Six Nations squad.
Simmonds was pivotal in helping the Chiefs record an English and European title double in 2020, scoring a staggering 19 tries in 26 first team appearances.
His efforts were also rewarded with him being named the European Player of the Year following Exeter’s Champions Cup win over Racing 92.
Speaking to the Rugby Journal recently, he revealed why he continues to be left out by Jones despite his stellar form in the Gallagher Premiership.
“He (Eddie) said, at the moment I don’t fit into his squad and how he sees me, and how I play for Exeter, doesn’t fit into his team.
“And, that is quite tough to take, but at least I get to play for Exeter Chiefs. This is a great club and team.”
