"Rugby pales into insignificance" -Dan Biggar pays touching tribute to Tiffany Youngs

"I don't know how much time we've got left but with Tom Youngs' wife passing away, I just wanted to pass on personal and from a team point of view our condolences," said Biggar.

"Realistically, how unimportant rugby is in the grand scheme of things. I hope that the game is played in the spirit on Saturday. I'd like to pass on our condolences on behalf of myself and the team.

“A game of rugby pales into insignificance beside what that family is going through and I imagine there’s going to be a huge amount of emotion at Welford Road.

“My hope is that the game can be played in the right way to honour Tiffany - and that it brings supporters and players together.

“As much as it means so much to us all, it is very much second fiddle to the greater good in terms of Tom and his family.”

Tiffany previously told The Backstory podcast she was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma—a form of blood cancer—in 2014 and fought the disease for three years before being told the illness was terminal.

Despite being informed she had between one and 12 months to live, Youngs’ wife then heard in early 2018 that she was in a state of remission.

However, the illness then returned with former England player Tom announcing his retirement in April to care for his wife.

The club said in a statement today: “Leicester Tigers are deeply saddened by the news that Tiffany Youngs has passed away after her heroic battle with illness.

“On behalf of everybody at the club, we send our condolences to the Youngs and Sands families. Rest in peace, Tiffany.”
