"Reliable character" - Tom Wood handed important role within English Rugby

Tom Wood, the former captain of the England rugby team, has assumed a significant role in Premiership Rugby's newly established sporting commission, marking a significant shift in the management of the club game.

The commission possesses unparalleled decision-making authority as part of a comprehensive set of governance reforms.
This development follows a tumultuous period off the field, with Worcester, Wasps, and London Irish all encountering financial difficulties.
With an illustrious career spanning 15 years, Wood, who retired in 2022, earned 50 caps for England.
He achieved notable success, including winning the Six Nations in 2011 and 2017. Additionally, he led the national team during their tour of Argentina in 2013 and guided Northampton to victory in the Premiership in 2014.
As a member of the seven-person commission, Wood will contribute his player's perspective. The commission will also include three independent figures from the sports and business realms.
Empowered with the ability to make decisions on behalf of the remaining ten Premiership clubs, the commission aims to overcome conflicts and vested interests that have hindered the league's decision-making processes.
To ensure transparency, the commission will provide quarterly updates to the PRL's investor board and will convene as a group eight times annually. Each of the seven members possesses a single vote, and decisions will be reached through majority voting.
