England are set to kick off their Six Nations campaign against Ireland this weekend, with more than 75,000 fans expected at Allianz Stadium.
Although the squad is largely as anticipated, Botterman’s absence stands out, having not been included in the matchday 23.
She was the starting loosehead in the 2025 World Cup final, where the Red Roses defeated Canada to secure their first title since 2014.
This upcoming match will be the team’s first since that final, and only the second time the full squad has assembled since then, following a January alignment camp.
Mitchell explained the reason behind her omission.
"She had her ankle mended in the pre-season. At the moment, mechanically it is not quite right. So we are getting it checked up."
He added that she is unlikely to feature again during the tournament, though a return hasn’t been entirely ruled out.
"No, I'd say that she might even miss out on the tournament. Hope not, but it's not looking good."
Mitchell also indicated that a clearer update on her condition is expected soon.
"I think we'll know more in a week's time."
