Leicester Tigers' powerhouse George Martin has been tipped as the next Martin Johnson and is ready to make his mark in England’s Six Nations opener against Ireland in Dublin this Saturday.
Known for his bone-crunching hits that wouldn’t look out of place in a rugby highlight reel, Martin has become a fan favourite for those who love the raw physicality of the sport.
Dinner with a Legend
Since joining Leicester Tigers in 2016, Martin has wasted no time collecting international caps and domestic silverware, building an impressive CV at just 22 years old.
Despite the comparisons to the iconic Martin Johnson, Martin is keen to learn more from the man himself. he revealed: “We’ve had a few conversations around the club, but not a proper sit-down. I’d be interested to find out what made him tick, how he got his teammates on board, and how he led, really.”
A Test of Depth
England’s squad has taken its fair share of hits leading up to Saturday’s clash. Jamie George, Alex Coles, Alex Dombrandt, and Jack van Poortvliet have all been ruled out, adding to Borthwick’s selection headaches.
Breaking the Dublin Curse
England haven’t tasted victory in Dublin since 2019, but Mitchell’s availability could be key to reversing their fortunes against the reigning Six Nations champions. The Aviva Stadium awaits for what promises to be a seismic clash.
