Owen Farrell's latest announcement reveals what comes next

Farrell will travel to the island on July 3-4 for an after-dinner speaking event followed by an open coaching session for young rugby players, marking one of his most significant moves into coaching and public speaking since stepping away from international rugby.

The first event, "An Evening with Owen Farrell", will see the Lions, England and Saracens legend take part in a live Q&A over a three-course meal at Pomme d'Or Hotel on Friday evening. Guests can purchase tables of eight or 12 for what organisers are billing as an exclusive opportunity to hear stories from one of England's most decorated players. 

The following morning, Farrell will swap the microphone for the whistle as he hosts a free coaching session at Jersey Rugby Club for boys and girls aged 11-16.

Starting at 9:30am, the session is open to young players of all abilities, with every participant also receiving a complimentary T-shirt.

While Farrell remains an active player, the two events offer a clear indication of the direction he could take once his playing days eventually come to an end.

Known throughout his career as one of rugby's most demanding leaders, Farrell has long been tipped for a future in coaching thanks to his tactical understanding of the game and uncompromising standards.

Public speaking also appears set to become another avenue, with the Jersey dinner giving supporters the chance to hear first-hand stories from a career that has included multiple Premiership titles, European Cups, British & Irish Lions tours and more than a decade at the heart of England's national team.

For fans on the island, it will be a rare opportunity to spend time with one of rugby union's biggest names, while for Farrell it represents another step towards what could become a successful second career once he eventually hangs up his boots.

Over the years, Farrell has clashed with several players—both teammates and rivals—and one feud, in particular, stands out.

Former England lock Dave Attwood didn’t hold back when discussing his strained relationship with Farrell. According to Attwood, things turned sour after a playful dig about rugby league—Farrell’s beloved code—went too far.

"I made a joke about rugby league being a sport for the peasants," Attwood revealed. "He confronted me, and it’s safe to say he didn’t find it funny. He hates me with a passion."

The tension between the pair never fully eased, with Attwood admitting, "We don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things."

Farrell’s competitive edge wasn’t limited to his own squad.

During the 2018 Six Nations, he locked horns with Scotland’s Ryan Wilson in a fiery tunnel bust-up. The incident escalated so much that Wilson later faced a ban from Twickenham.
