One of South Africa’s richest families joins Pro D2 project alongside former Springboks

The club have confirmed that Piet Mouton, son of the sixth richest South African, has been named co-chairman. Mouton is the current CEO of PSG Group, the company founded by his father, Jannie.

As of January 2026, Jannie Mouton’s net worth was estimated at $2.3 billion, and although it is his son taking an active role at the club, Béziers may be hoping this signals the potential for major investment aimed at reaching the Top 14.

Béziers finished 12th in the French second tier this season and will be looking to Steenkamp’s experience, combined with Mouton’s financial backing, to help drive improvement.

A former prop, Steenkamp represented South Africa in their victorious 2007 Rugby World Cup campaign. He was named 2010 South African Player of the Year and played in all five matches for South Africa at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Bobby Skinstad, former Springboks captain and current president of ASBH, welcomed the strategic partnership, saying it should help the club aim higher: "We are also pleased to announce that Piet Mouton, a shareholder of the club, will join me as co-chairman, subject to the approval of the Supervisory Board.

"I have known Piet for over thirty years. Until now, he has voluntarily chosen to remain in the background, enthusiastically observing our project and waiting for the right moment to play a more active role in the development of the club.

"A highly regarded business leader and recently retired from his position as CEO of the listed PSG Group, a major shareholder in several of the largest South African companies, including Capitec Bank, Piet will bring all his experience.

"His passion for rugby will be an essential lever to support the club's ambitions and gradually bring us closer to our goal: to make ASBH a major player in the Top 14.

"All of our other shareholders remain fully committed to our side. The more their confidence in the French rugby ecosystem grows, the more their involvement and visibility in the project increase."

The club has already begun reshaping its squad ahead of next season, with more than 20 players leaving and several targeted signings brought in, including Wales international Mackenzie Martin.
