"One-man show" - Five England hopefuls who impressed this weekend

With Steve Borthwick’s next squad announcement edging closer, a handful of players produced standout displays — combining flair, grit and leadership in equal measure.

Here are five men who strengthened their England claims this weekend.

Henry Arundell showed exactly why he’s one of English rugby’s most exciting prospects. The Bath winger lit up The Rec with a dazzling display in their commanding 38–17 victory over Gloucester.

His pace, power and footwork proved too much for the Cherry and Whites to handle, and at times it felt like a one-man show.

Sam Warburton called him “already world-class” — and after this performance, few would argue.

Fresh from signing a new contract, Joe Batley delivered another gritty and influential performance as Bristol edged Exeter 18–14.

The towering lock put in a tireless shift — physical in defence, dominant at the breakdown and a steadying presence in the set-piece. He’s quietly becoming one of the Bears’ most consistent performers.

Returning from injury, Fraser Dingwall slotted seamlessly back into the Saints midfield during their thrilling 32–26 win over Leicester. His partnership with Rory Hutchinson clicked straight back into gear, with Dingwall’s sharp offload helping create Anthony Belleau’s try.

He also showed his trademark strength and vision, even having a powerful finish of his own ruled out. A complete performance that won’t go unnoticed by England selectors.

Luke Cowan-Dickie made a statement on his return from the Lions tour as Sale dismantled Newcastle 57–5.

The hooker was back to his bulldozing best — accurate at the lineout, destructive in defence, and a constant carrying threat.

Getting back on the scoresheet capped off an all-action display that reminded everyone of his international calibre.

Pearson was immense once again for Northampton. He crossed for Saints’ third try just before half-time and delivered a powerhouse performance throughout.

His footwork before contact and ability to win collisions were standout features, while a match-high 16 tackles — despite only playing an hour — summed up his relentless work rate.
