Munster Rugby confirm signing of Samoa prop Michael Ala'alatoa

Ala’alatoa, 34, is currently on international duty with Samoa and will join Munster on Monday, December 1. The tighthead prop brings a wealth of experience, having earned 24 international caps and represented Samoa at two Rugby World Cups.

The prop began his Super Rugby career with the Waratahs in 2014 before moving to the Crusaders in 2016, where he enjoyed considerable success, winning three Super Rugby titles and two Super Rugby Aotearoa Championships.

This will be Ala’alatoa’s second stint in Ireland, following his time at Leinster from 2021 to 2024, where he scored six tries in 62 appearances. His return adds significant depth to Munster’s front row options ahead of the second half of the season.

Rugby runs in the family for Ala’alatoa. His father, Vili, represented Western Samoa at the 1991 Rugby World Cup, while his brother, Allan, is an Australian international and captain of the Brumbies.

Munster coach and management have welcomed the signing as an opportunity to blend experience with their existing squad, and Ala’alatoa’s track record at the highest levels of club and international rugby is expected to provide an immediate impact.
