“Macs Page set for debut" - Matt Sherratt remains Interim head coach and names Wales squad for Japan Tour

After being handed the role back in February, Sherratt has been given the opportunity again despite a horror 68-14 defeat against England in the final match of this year’s Six Nations.

The Cardiff Rugby boss, will be supported by Gethin Jenkins (defence), Danny Wilson (forwards), Adam Jones (scrum), T. Rhys Thomas (assistant forwards) who will complete the backroom team.

It is also to Ruck Rugby’s understanding that centurion international, Leigh Halfpenny is potentially going to be named as kicking coach for the tour. This will be on a part-time basis as he on course for a move to France next season.

The series against the Brave Blossoms begins with Wales returning to Kitakyushu, where the first Test takes place on 5 July at Mikuni World Stadium. Following that Wales head to Kobe where they will conclude the series on July 12 at Noevir Stadium.

Speaking after being announced as interim head coach for the second time, Sherratt stated: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to return and coach Wales again this summer.

“It’s an exciting prospect to go to Japan for two matches in July.

“Thank you to Cardiff for permitting Gethin and I to take up this opportunity. Thank you also to Harlequins and Gloucester for allowing Danny, Adam and TR to join the coaching team for these two fixtures.

“We are all looking forward to getting into camp and starting preparations for our summer campaign.”

Six uncapped players are selected among the 19 forwards and 14 backs named today: Cardiff Rugby hooker Liam Belcher, Dragons RFC tighthead Chris Coleman, Ospreys trio: wing Keelan Giles, scrum-half Reuben Morgan-Williams and loose-head prop Garyn Phillips, as well as Scarlets back Macs Page.

Page who signed his first senior contract with the Parc y Scarlets side after breezing through the Academy system and in his 17 appearances he has scored five tries. A former Swansea City football academy player, has definitely carried over his extremely good footwork with that being a highlight for this season.
