LIVE Updates: Ultimate Sevens: Cardiff - Men's Division

With no half times, seven-point scores, time-out calls and varied conversion zones, this was sevens like no one had ever seen it before. Six brand new franchises made their debuts in Wales, following their week of preparations after first getting together in Madrid. The teams brought their unique stories to the Arms Park, with the very best of the world's sevens players unleashed in their new club colours, to form some incredible, never before seen combinations.

Pacific Current were quickly down a man, with Marcus Kershaw sent to the sin bin after a dangerous tackle up-ended a Sol Feroz player. The Latin side took immediate advantage with a try from Luciano Gonzalez, as the in-form flying Spaniard madse his mark upon his first touch of the ball. Feroz bagged their second through Gasparno Lolli, after some slick passing to the touchline. Each try was followed by one-point conversions, to establish a strong 12-0 lead.

Pacific Current responded with a breath-taking try, with every man involved in the end-to-end score, that was finished off by James Turner. The two extra points narrowed down the deficit, and a last-ditch score from Scotland international Kaleem Borreto gave Current a life-line. However, Borreto sliced his conversion from in front of the posts, much to the delight of Sol Feroz. As 10 minutes elapsed, this match was decided by Golden Point, with James Turner scoring his second to win the opening men's match.

The Novas opened up the scoring with an incredible piece of individual skill, with Australian Olympian Maurice Longbottom side-stepping his way through the line, and showcasing some serious pace for a seven-point score. Albion Athletic responded well, with some opportunistic attack that sent Jordan Sepho across the whitewash, Loose Novas off-loading sent the ball into Albion hands, with the French flyer getting his side back in the fight.

However, the missed conversion would prove costly for Athletic, as the men in white were unable to return across the Novas' try line, as the hard-fought match was ground down to a narrow win for Atlantic Novas. This sees Albion Athletic eliminated from the men's division, in what is quite the shock given the star-power in the side.

Foudre Bleue wasted no time getting their men's division underway, with French Olympic Gold Medalist Paulin Riva grabbing a quick fire try and a one point conversion. Les Blues followed this up with Ethan Waddleton going over from close range, to stretch the lead and add a further two from the boot for good measure.

South African superstar Selvyn Davids then took centre stage for Clan Taran, with the Blitzbok flyer punting a loose ball beyond Foudre's try-line and pouncing for the score. Davids added two extras from the tee, for a 13-7 score-line. Clan Taran then called a time out, as the hosts chased from behind upon their home soil campaign. Taran hit back, with a pick through the defensive line by Australian Tom Emery, and the conversion edged the Clan into the lead.

Selvyn Davids then saved the match for Clan Taran, as he denied a last-hope surge for the try line by holding up a Foudre Bleue man. It was a stellar piece of defending by the South African, to keep the host men's side heading to the semi-finals. The 13 points scored by Foudre Bleue sees them take the highest ranked losers place, and progress through to the semi-finals.

The flood-lights turn on at Cardiff Arms Park, as we enter the semi-final stage for the men's side of the competition. Foudre stared strong, yet a powerful carry towards the corner flag was bundled into touch by resilient Pacific defending. However, the deadlock broke with a sensational step from Jayden Keelan, as the New Zealand Sevens star raced free and nailed a two-point conversion. A second Bleue score followed, as Nathaniel Barry pinned back his ears to score and add a one point kick.

A contender for men's try of the tournament then followed, with Pacific Current stand-out Marcus Kershaw collecting his grubber kick through the Foudre Bleue defence and cantering home for the try. He nailed two extras through the sticks, to cut down the Foudre lead. The Current then sent a second tidal wave, with another kick chase gathered and scored by Finlay Loyd-Gilmore, with the tactic proving to be the downfall of the Foudre.

A nailed conversion drew the match level at 13-13, with the action going to Golden Point. However, the Pacific party would come to an end, as Foudre Bleue cinched the crucial last score. UK Armed Forces capped player Josua Cevaceva was on hand to score the crucial winner, as he caught the defence off guard with a quick tap penalty.

The Cardiff fans had their voices heard in this one, as a chorus of booes rang out when an early Clan Taran try was chalked off by a forward pass. Such was the intensity of this semi-final, with the home men's side firmly backed by their Celtic cousins. The Clan got off the mark first, after an exhaustive start to the action. South Africa international Quewin Nortje broke the deadlock, as he broke through the Novas defence who had turned their backs to the Blitzbok man for a seven pointer.

Clan Taran kept the pressure on the Novas, and followed up their opener with back-to-back scores, much to the delight of the home fans. A charge along the left touch-line saw the ball shipped out wide to Shakes Soyizwapi, with the South African on hand to join his fellow Blitzbok on the score-sheet, as Taran fought their way through to the Ultimate Sevens Men's Final.

Much to the annoyance of the Clan Taran home fans, it was the Bleue who struck first through Nathaniel Barry. However, the walk in score out in the corner proved too much of a tricky angle for any further points, which kept the door ajar for the Taranians. This door was kicked off it's hinges by Selvyn Davids, as the Blitzbok sensation raced after a ball kicked into the back-field, to run in a seven pointer under the posts.

Clan Taran then kept their tempo high, and raced away with two follow up scores, as the hosts started to flex their muscles with a show of attacking domiance out in Cardiff. Will Homer was over the try-line with a neat drive from close range, before Tom Emery crossed the whitewash to build on this lead. The drama stayed high, as Lockie Kratz was sent to the sin bin for Taran, who immediately called for the time-out buzzer. However, Taran held on as the hosts were crowned champions.
