LIST: Eddie Jones reveals five players he wants to cap this summer

Head coach Eddie Jones has revealed that he intends to take a look at some new players this summer, with these four being namechecked by the Aussie.

Jones is considering handing unheralded Sale prop a shock call-up after forwards coach Matt Proudfoot visited him in training this week, according to The Telegraph. Rodd, who was born in Scotland, is also thought to be wanted by Scotland boss Gregor Townsend.

Smith’s rapid rise shows no signs of slowing down – it took barely a year for him to go from captaining Brighton College in an unbeaten season to involvement in the senior England squad. The Harlequins star, who balances flair with good game management, looks like the obvious choice to be Jones next number 10 with the Aussie tipping him for a summer call-up.

The Fijian, who is on an extended leave from the Yorkshire Regiment, joined the Bears on a two-year contract last summer and is England qualified. The 28-year-old, who played Sevens for Bath and Saracens before joining Super League Hull FC, has scored seven tries for the Bears so far this season to get onto Jones’ radar with The Rugby Paper suggesting he's set for a call-up.

Quirke, the 19-year-old Englishman who is as North West as Coronation Street, is the current apprentice to World Cup winning scrum-half Faf de Klerk at the AJ Bell Stadium. He has been an international age-group regular, but qualifies for Ireland through his Grandmother.

“We are really pleased with the way he is going,” said Jones about Odogwu, despite the Wasps speedster not featuring in his team during the 2021 Six Nations.

"“He has hung around with the best players in the country the last eight weeks. He has seen the way they train, has seen how they prepare, how professional some of those guys are, the extras they do to try and get themselves to where they need to be. For me, that is really exciting for Paolo."
