Tipped to blow Wales away in their final pool match of the Autumn Nations Cup, England managed to impressively underwhelm everyone. Fair play.
It was an opportunity missed for what was the most  experienced England XV of all-time to cut loose and show our back division doesn’t’ just consist of Jonny May.
Rant over and back to the topic at hand, we've taken a look at 5 (maybe 6) players from the Premiership that stuck their hand up for a recall over the weekend.

Luther Burrell (Newcastle)

The powerhouse has been been like a rampaging bull since making his return to the Premiership following a disappointing stint in that other sport. Operating as the Falcons chief ball carrier in their opening two wins against Bath and Sale, Burrell is probably the closest  human battering ram around to Manu Tuilagi.
He’s revealed he’d love to play for England again, and if he and Newcastle continue to impress you wouldn’t rule it out. Although, the talk of Ben Earl playing in the midfield probably gives him horrible flashbacks to 2015 when the waste of time Sam Burgess stole his World Cup spot.
Not the most hipster selection by any means, but someone who’d fit into the current system and make the team better.

Alex Dombrandt (Harlequins)

There’s been a lot of talk about Sam Simmonds internationals credentials recently so it was nice to see the true heir to Billy Vunipola’s number 8 throne make his claim.
Leading the Quins into battle at Franklin’s Gardens, Dombrandt’s side decimated the Saints with their captain striking the deadly blow with his second half try. A berserker of a man and a hell of a rugby player.

Joe Simpson (Gloucester)

If there was ever an example that talent means zilch in England, it’s the fact his teammate Willi Heinz, who is as English as Pinocchio is a real boy, has 13 times more caps.
Simpson really is the whole package; he’s reliable and measured like a Ben Young’s but has that bit of flair and creativity like Dan Robson. Also, the man holds the record the fastest ever rugby pass for fluffs sake. Not sure how that relates, but it’s pretty cool.

Sam Simmonds (Exeter Chiefs)

He’s a bit of a renegade, but after five tries in two games the numbers joining his cause are growing almost by the hour.
Despite his ways being unconventional at times, it gets results. However, that’s not what commander Jones is looking for. The Aussie is like a chess player (control freak) and he wants this piece to be an absolute unit to carry, tackle and occasionally score a pushover try.
Hopefully, talent prevails, but in this case it’s more likely that Jones ignores fans and carries on replacing like-for-like.

Joe Simmonds or Marcus Smith (not bothered which one)

If recent performance are anything to go by, School chums Farrell and Ford need a kick up the backside. The England captain had three wayward kicks at goal and somehow missed five tackles against Wales while Ford displayed as much attacking intent as Scooby Doo face-to-face with a ghost.
They’re both squeaky clean and good professionals but it’s gone stale and who can blame them after seven-ish years.
Simmonds and Smith were on top form this weekend and have been a joy to watch in the Premiership for a while now. It might cheer fans up to see them bring that flair to the international stage.
